  • 1 packet active dry yeast Ensure it's fresh for proper activation.
  • 2 cups warm water Temperature should be around 110°F.
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar Helps to activate yeast.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Adds flavor to the dough.
  • 2/3 cup baking soda Used for boiling the pretzels.

Decoration

  • 1 cup pink icing For drizzling on top.

Preparation

  • Activate the yeast in warm water with sugar until frothy.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
  • Stir in the yeast mixture until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for five minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm area until it doubles in size.
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into twelve pieces.
  • Roll each piece into a twenty-four inch strand and twist into heart shapes.

Cooking

  • Boil water with baking soda, and drop pretzels in for thirty seconds.
  • Transfer the pretzels to a baking sheet and bake until golden.
  • Let them cool slightly before icing.
  • Generously drizzle with pink icing.

Notes

Store pretzels at room temperature in an airtight container for up to two days. Can be frozen for up to two months.
