Main Ingredients

  • 4 pieces chicken pieces Bone-in, skin-on preferred for flavor.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Use tamari for gluten-free.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, minced Use firm, fragrant ginger.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, sliced For garnish.
  • 2 cups rice, cooked Serve warm.

Preparation

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Chop garlic and ginger.
  • Add chicken pieces to the pan and sear until golden brown on both sides.
  • Pour in soy sauce and add sugar, stirring until it bubbles.

Cooking

  • Add water to the mixture and reduce heat. Cover and simmer until chicken is cooked through.
  • Serve chicken over warm rice and garnish with green onions.

Notes

For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
