Ingredients
  

For the turkey

  • 1 whole whole turkey (10 to 12 pounds)
  • 1 cup herb butter, softened Can substitute with a citrus herb butter.
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth Added to keep the turkey moist.
  • 1 quarter lemon, quartered Stuff inside the turkey.
  • 1 quarter onion, quartered Stuff inside the turkey.
  • to taste fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary, sage) Fresh herbs are preferred for flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F.
  • In a large bowl, mix the softened herb butter with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined.
  • Pat the turkey dry with paper towels and loosen the skin from the breast.
  • Spread half of the herb butter mixture under the skin and rub the remaining over the entire surface of the turkey.
  • Stuff the cavity with quartered lemon, onion, and fresh herbs.
  • Place the turkey on a roasting rack in a roasting pan and pour chicken broth into the bottom.

Cooking

  • Roast the turkey in the preheated oven, basting every 30 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  • This usually takes about 3 to 4 hours.
  • Once done, let the turkey rest for 20 to 30 minutes before carving.

Notes

Allow the turkey to come to room temperature before roasting for even cooking. Use a roasting rack for crispy skin.
