Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • Melt half a cup of unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat, until it turns golden brown.
  • In a bowl, combine the brown sugar with the browned butter.
  • Add the egg, maple syrup, and vanilla extract, then mix until smooth.
  • Gradually fold in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  • Scoop out tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space for spreading.

Baking

  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are golden.

Icing

  • In a small saucepan, melt half a cup of unsalted butter until browned.
  • In a bowl, mix the browned butter with powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
  • Drizzle the icing over the cooled cookies.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container for up to three days. They can be refrigerated for a week or frozen for up to three months. Browning the butter properly enhances the flavor.
