Ingredients

For the cake

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks
  • 1/2 cup red and white M&M’s
  • 1/2 cup pink and white heart sprinkles

For the frosting

  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • pink gel food coloring for coloring the frosting

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a heart-shaped cake pan with parchment paper, greasing it lightly.
  • In a bowl, soften three quarters of a cup of unsalted butter until creamy. Mix with three quarters of a cup of light brown sugar and a quarter cup of granulated sugar.
  • Add one egg and two teaspoons of vanilla extract to the butter and sugar mixture. Mix until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together two cups of flour, two teaspoons of cornstarch, one teaspoon of baking soda, and half a teaspoon of kosher salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, and mix until it resembles a soft dough.
  • Fold in one cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips, half a cup of chocolate chunks, half a cup of red and white M&M’s, and half a cup of pink and white heart sprinkles.

Baking

  • Press the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for approximately 30 minutes or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Frosting

  • While the cake cools, prepare the frosting by softening one and a half cups of unsalted butter until smooth.
  • Gradually mix in three cups of powdered sugar until fluffy.
  • Blend in four tablespoons of heavy whipping cream, two teaspoons of vanilla extract, and a few drops of pink gel food coloring.

Assembly

  • Once the cake has cooled, fluff up the frosting and spread it generously over the cake, allowing it to drape over the edges.
  • Top with additional heart sprinkles for a festive touch.

Notes

If your cake domes upon baking, gently press it down with a spatula while still warm for a flat top.
