  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • cups sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder Use good quality for richer flavor

  • ½ teaspoon salt

Frosting

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and grease and flour a heart-shaped cake pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract.

Mixing Batter

  • In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually integrate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, then bake for approximately 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow cooling in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Decoration

  • Once cooled, frost with your favorite frosting and decorate as desired.

Notes

Be sure to use room temperature ingredients for the best emulsification. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting to prevent melting.
