  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup softened butter Use fresh for best flavor and texture.
  • 2 large eggs Free-range recommended for better flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup of softened butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add in 2 large eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and mix until combined.
  • In another bowl, combine 2.5 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of baking powder, whisking until mixed.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the creamed mixture, stirring gently until a soft dough forms.
  • Divide the dough into three equal parts.
  • Tint one part with red food coloring, one with pink, and leave one plain white.
  • Roll out each colored dough between sheets of parchment paper to an even thickness.

Baking

  • Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out shapes and place them on baking sheets lined with parchment.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  • Allow baked cookies to cool on a wire rack.

Notes

To maintain freshness, store cookies at room temperature in an airtight container for up to a week. They can be frozen for up to three months.
