  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon almond extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

Decorating Ingredients

  • royal icing For decoration
  • green and white food coloring For decoration

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  • In a small bowl, stir together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and white sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
  • Gradually blend in the flour mixture until combined into a soft dough.

Baking

  • Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into small balls and place them onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Lightly flatten each ball and shape them into footballs.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown.
  • Allow to cool on wire racks.

Decoration

  • Decorate the cooled cookies with royal icing in the shape of footballs, using green and white food coloring for details.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. For longer storage, refrigerate for up to two weeks or freeze for up to three months.
