  • 1 tablespoon one tablespoon of grated milk chocolate For additional chocolatey flavor.
  • 14 ounces fourteen ounces of sweetened condensed milk Provides sweetness and creaminess.
  • 0.125 teaspoon one eighth teaspoon of vanilla extract Enhances the flavor profile.
  • to taste whipped cream for topping Can also top with ground cinnamon and chocolate shavings.

Preparation

  • Pour two cups of two percent milk and half a cup of heavy whipping cream into a medium saucepan.
  • Heat over medium-high until steaming, but do not boil.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together half a cup of cocoa powder, one tablespoon of sugar, and one tablespoon of grated milk chocolate.
  • When the milk mixture is steaming, gradually whisk in the dry ingredients until fully combined.
  • Lower the heat to medium and add fourteen ounces of sweetened condensed milk and one eighth teaspoon of vanilla extract, stirring until smooth.
  • Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for five minutes, then remove from heat.
  • Serve in individual mugs and top with whipped cream, cinnamon, and chocolate shavings if desired.

Notes

You can customize this hot chocolate by adding various toppings or spices, such as crushed peppermint or cayenne pepper. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
