Red Velvet Cake Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour Opt for high-quality flour for best results.
  • 2 tablespoons Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1.75 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cups Vegetable oil
  • 1 cup Buttermilk Can substitute with milk and vinegar.
  • 2 large Eggs Room temperature eggs yield better results.
  • 1-2 tablespoons Red food coloring Use gel coloring for vibrant results.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon White vinegar

Cheesecake Layer Ingredients

  • 16 ounces Cream cheese Softened to room temperature.
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup Sour cream
  • 2 large Eggs Room temperature eggs.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Frosting Ingredients

  • 8 ounces Cream cheese Softened to room temperature.
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter Softened.
  • 3 cups Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Preparation of Red Velvet Cake

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, combine the sugar and vegetable oil until smooth. Add buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vanilla, and vinegar, mixing well.
  • Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into a greased springform pan and bake for 40-45 minutes. Allow to cool completely.

Preparation of Cheesecake Layer

  • In a large bowl, blend cream cheese, granulated sugar, and sour cream until smooth.
  • Add eggs and vanilla, mixing until fully incorporated.
  • After the red velvet layer has cooled, pour the cheesecake mixture over the top and smooth it out.
  • Increase the oven temperature to 350°F (177°C) and bake for an additional 30-40 minutes until set.

Preparation of Frosting and Assembly

  • Beat together cream cheese and butter until smooth, then mix in the powdered sugar and vanilla to make the frosting.
  • Once the cheesecake has cooled, assemble the layers with cream cheese frosting in between.
  • Cover the whole cake with remaining frosting and chill for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature ingredients. This cake can be made a day ahead to enhance the flavors.
