Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a cupcake tin with festive paper liners.
  • In a bowl, sift together flour and baking powder.
  • In a separate large bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Slowly add eggs, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.
  • Distribute the batter evenly among the lined cupcake cups, filling each about two-thirds full.
  • Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cupcakes cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting and Decoration

  • To make the frosting, beat together softened unsalted butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until creamy.
  • Divide the frosting into bowls and add festive food coloring.
  • Once cupcakes are cool, frost them and generously top with holiday sprinkles.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. Refrigerate if frosted with perishable toppings.
