Ingredients

  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour Make sure it's fresh
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter Room temperature
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs Fresh eggs improve flavor

Chocolate

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips Use high-quality for best results

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt, setting it aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  • Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture, mixing until fully incorporated, about 1 minute.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined, taking care not to overmix.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips evenly throughout the dough.

Baking

  • Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space to allow for spreading.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, until the edges are lightly browned and the centers look soft.
  • Remove from the oven and cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For chewy cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking and avoid overbaking.
