Ingredients
  

Brownie Base

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt

Chocolate Mousse

  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 8 ounces Semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar

Optional Ganache

  • 1 cup Chocolate, melted
  • 1/2 cup Cream, heated

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Make Brownie Base

  • Melt the unsalted butter in a medium saucepan.
  • Stir in the sugar until glistening and let it cool slightly.
  • Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  • Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a batter is formed.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  • Bake for about 25 minutes until set but still fudgy in the center.
  • Allow brownies to cool completely at room temperature.

Make Chocolate Mousse

  • Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until gently simmering.
  • Pour the cream over the chopped semi-sweet chocolate and let it sit for 2 minutes.
  • Stir until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth.
  • Allow to cool slightly, then fold in the powdered sugar.
  • Whip the mixture until light and fluffy.
  • Spread the mousse over the cooled brownies evenly.

Chill and Serve

  • Refrigerate the brownie and mousse layer until set, about 2 hours.
  • Optionally, drizzle melted chocolate ganache over the top before serving.

Notes

Use high-quality chocolate for the best results. Consider adding almond or orange extracts for unique flavors.
