Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Ganache

  • 8 ounces dark chocolate Chopped into small pieces
  • 1 cup heavy cream Heated until just simmering

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cocoa powder, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.
  • Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes until the batter is smooth.
  • Stir in the boiling water carefully; the batter will be thin.
  • Pour the batter evenly into two greased round cake pans.

Baking

  • Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Ganache Preparation

  • Chop the dark chocolate and place it in a heatproof bowl.
  • In a small saucepan, heat heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
  • Pour the hot cream over the chopped chocolate and let it sit for a minute before stirring until smooth.

Assembly

  • Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate.
  • Spread a generous portion of ganache on top, then place the second layer on top.
  • Pour the remaining ganache over the top, letting it drizzle down the sides.

Notes

Use quality ingredients to enhance flavor. Don't open the oven door until baking time is up. Ensure the cake is cooled completely before adding ganache.
