Ingredients
  

For the Peanut Butter Mixture

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter Use smooth peanut butter for the best texture.
  • 3 cups powdered sugar Sifted, to avoid lumps.
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter Softened to room temperature.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For added flavor.
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt

For the Chocolate Coating

  • 12 ounces semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips Melted for dipping.
  • 1 tablespoon shortening To help the chocolate melt smoothly.
  • 2 ounces white chocolate Melted for decoration.

Preparation of Peanut Butter Mixture

  • In a large bowl, cream together peanut butter, powdered sugar, softened butter, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  • Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Forming Balls

  • Roll the chilled peanut butter mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Melting Chocolate

  • Melt chocolate chips and shortening together in a double boiler or microwave until smooth.

Dipping

  • Dip each peanut butter ball into the melted chocolate, leaving a small portion of peanut butter exposed at the top.
  • Place the dipped buckeyes back on the parchment-lined baking sheet and immediately drizzle melted white chocolate over the top to create football laces.

Setting and Serving

  • Allow the chocolate to set completely before serving.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
