Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Begin by bringing two cups of water to a gentle boil in a small pot or saucepan.
  • Once the water is boiling, carefully add a package of instant ramen noodles and cook until al dente, approximately three minutes.
  • Before draining, reserve a quarter cup of starchy noodle water. Then drain the remaining water.
  • Return the pot to the stove over low heat and add a tablespoon of unsalted butter, allowing it to melt.
  • Stir in half a teaspoon of garlic powder and cook for about thirty seconds.
  • Pour in half a cup of milk and the reserved quarter cup of starchy noodle water, whisking gently.
  • Turn the heat down very low or switch off the heat, then add two slices of American cheese and half a cup of shredded cheese.
  • Whisk until the cheeses melt into a creamy sauce.

Combining

  • Add the cooked and drained noodles back into the pot.
  • Use tongs to toss the noodles, ensuring they are coated in the cheese sauce.
  • Season with freshly cracked black pepper and add salt if needed.
  • Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish as desired.
  • Serve immediately while still hot.

Notes

Adjust sauce consistency by adding more milk if necessary. Consider adding sautéed vegetables for added nutrition.
