  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cups unsweetened cocoa powder Sift before measuring
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs Bring to room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk Bring to room temperature
  • 0.5 cups vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water Add carefully
  • dark blue food coloring Add until desired hue is achieved

Frosting and Decoration

  • Buttercream frosting buttercream frosting for decoration
  • edible glitter or stars Optional, for decoration

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.

Batter Preparation

  • Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry mixture. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  • Carefully stir in boiling water until mixed.
  • Add dark blue food coloring gradually until you achieve the desired color.

Baking

  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  • Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Cooling and Frosting

  • Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once cooled, frost with buttercream frosting and decorate with edible glitter or stars.

Notes

Store the cake covered at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
