Ingredients

For the trifle

  • 1 box Chocolate cake mix Prepared according to package directions
  • 1 cup Heavy cream For whipping
  • 1/2 cup Powdered sugar To sweeten the whipped cream
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract For flavor
  • 2 cups Cherries Canned or fresh, pitted and with juice or syrup
  • 1/4 cup Cherry juice From canned cherries or fresh
  • 2 cups Vanilla pudding Store-bought or homemade
  • 1/2 cup Dark chocolate shavings For decoration
  • 1 tablespoon Cocoa powder Optional for garnish

Instructions

Preparation

  • Prepare the chocolate cake according to package instructions, then allow it to cool completely.
  • Whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  • If using canned cherries, drain and reserve the liquid. For fresh cherries, pit them and combine with a splash of cherry juice.

Assembly

  • In a large glass bowl, start layering with pieces of chocolate cake.
  • Add a layer of vanilla pudding over the cake.
  • Follow with a layer of the cherry mixture.
  • Top with a layer of whipped cream.
  • Repeat the layering process until the bowl is full, finishing with whipped cream and chocolate shavings on top.

Chilling

  • Refrigerate the assembled trifle for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add almond extract to the whipped cream or use homemade pudding. Avoid freezing as it can ruin the textures.
