  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Make sure to sift for better texture.

Wet Ingredients

  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened Ensure it's at room temperature for better mixing.
  • 1 cup milk Room temperature milk works best.
  • 3 large eggs Bring to room temperature for even mixing.
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract Opt for pure for the best flavor.
  • 1 medium citrus fruit zest (orange or lemon) Zest adds vibrant flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and baking powder. Whisk until fluffy.
  • In a separate bowl, mix milk, softened butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and citrus zest until well combined.
  • Gradually add the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, mixing until smooth.

Baking

  • Grease two round cake pans and divide batter evenly between them, smoothing the tops.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Serving

  • Frost with your favorite icing or serve with whipped cream and fresh berries.
  • Garnish with fresh fruit or edible flowers for decoration.

Notes

Store leftovers at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Freeze for up to 3 months.
