Ingredients
  

Beef Mixture

  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean ground beef for a lighter dish.
  • 1 cup chopped onion Adds sweetness and flavor.
  • 2 cups beef broth For moisture and flavor.
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms Enhances the umami flavor.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Helps bind the mixture.
  • 1 large egg Acts as a binder.
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce Adds depth of flavor.
  • to taste salt and pepper Season to taste.

Topping

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes Preferably creamy for easy spreading.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Optional, for a cheesy topping.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is browned and the onion is soft.
  • Drain the excess fat from the skillet.
  • Stir in Worcestershire sauce, mushrooms, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  • Form the mixture into patties and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  • Pour beef broth over the patties.
  • Spoon the mashed potatoes over the top, spreading them evenly.
  • (Optional) Sprinkle shredded cheese over the potatoes.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown on top.

Notes

If the mashed potatoes are too thick, add a splash of milk to soften. For a lighter version, substitute ground chicken or turkey. Add seasonal vegetables for added nutrition.
